Parallel compression is a key ingredient that has been used by top mixers for years, but up until now, it has always required complex routing and increased clutter in your mix project to be able to utilize it on every track. Many compressors have a mix knob for blending the compressed signal with the dry signal, but we have found that this just doesn’t give enough control to really make use of the extensive power of parallel compression.

With individual wet and dry faders, along with an intuitive yet powerful EQ section, it won’t take long to recognize how much you’ve been missing out on. After using Manic Compressor on our projects, we realized that we have been missing out on a whole new world that we didn’t even know existed with compression.

6 Different Compressors
Even with so many good compressors out there, we find that it’s cumbersome to switch back and forth between different compressors with different settings trying to find the exact match for your track. With Manic Compressor, you can quickly switch between 6 different compressors without having to match settings.

Because Manic Compressor was designed from the ground up to be used in parallel, we were able to make some compressor modes that really shine in parallel.

Built for Abuse
With Manic Compressor’s innovative parallel design and Loudness Relief, this compressor was built to be abused. Subtle compression is a thing of that past (unless you want it, of course). Manic Compressor lets you put your settings to maximum carnage and then ease it off with its unique Loudness Relief knob, which softens the compression artifacts even under super heavy load.

Bleeding (or "spill") is the natural tendency of a microphone placed next to, for example, a box drum, to pick up sounds from adjacent instruments such as the bass drum and the hat. The large amount of bleeding makes it difficult to adjust the tone and level of the individual drums, and a harsh and rough sound can be produced from the kit if you apply even moderate amounts of EQ. Adding some compression to the mix only makes this situation worse.

Bleeding can be mitigated by using directional microphones and placing each microphone to reject the spill. The problem is that the drum kits are very tight in a small footprint, so the placement of the microphone will never be a complete solution. When working on a track using X-Eight you can play out your bassline, then go back and click next to switch through the 808 Presets until you find the perfect 808 for the track you are working on.

Each patch is pitched correctly to your keys.

So if you hit C1 – you’ll get an 808 pitched perfectly to C. This means you can save time, and make your workflow much faster.

Drum sample libraries are a dime a dozen nowadays, but you’ll rarely see one that sounds reasonably good and is available for a measly 10 bucks. Enter Druminator by Audio Assault – it’s a simple package with a natural-sounding, unprocessed drum kit that you can proceed to go nuts with.

The plug-in is fairly easy to use, yet comes with everything needed to get a respectable drum sound happening – parametric EQs with shelving and filters, compression, clipping, saturation, a transient shaper, and a reverb. Furthermore, Audio Assault’s standalone saturation plug-in – is built right into Druminator, so you can give those drums some genuine growl and snarl. There are also trigger channels for the snare and kick, letting you mix your own samples.Like all drum plug-ins worth their salt, Druminator offers multi-output capabilities so you can process each drum track individually. Drum mapping is fully editable as well, and already compatible with several formats.
