The “VTP-12A” is based on and seeking to recreate the sound of a 12 inch, 8-ohm, 75-Hz cone Celestion® T5901A V-Type speaker made in July of 2013.

The Cabinet (112 RECT)
“This cabinet does an excellent job of having a tonality that is both unique and transparent. While most all cabinets impose something on the overall sound, some more than others, what this cabinet does comes off more like an “enhancement” than a “signature”. In this way, it allows the driver to express itself without much at all in the way of forced unwanted overtones, and what it does have in that regard coalesces into something very pleasing – a clarity in the mids and top, and fullness in the low midrange, especially for a box of this smaller size.”

The Speaker (VTP-12A)
“While most ‘V-style’ speakers tend to accent the upper mids, this driver’s unique voice more accentuates lower midrange frequencies. This gives off a warmer, fuller, somewhat softer tonality, that lends itself to smaller and open back enclosures, another contrast to ‘V-style’ speakers. The overall sound is pleasant, smooth, and full, without being dull.”

The Combination
“These two pieces merge to result in a sound that is big for being small, and expressive for being thick. If there were non-music related words to describe it, it would be a “chocolate fat-baby little-big box”. This tone can be great for adding fullness to the traditional combo amp sound – excellent for blues-jazz fusion, for example – and is utilized this way to great effect in the real world. Surprisingly and probably not commonly thought of, it is also superb for adding tightness to bigger box tones by blending this cab/speaker in underneath a larger cab/speaker configuration.”

The Classic Rock EZX comes with two kits as well as several additional instruments and extras derived from the Legacy of Rock SDX, an expansion for Superior Drummer 3 recorded by legendary engineer/producer Eddie Kramer at AIR Studios in London, UK.

Heavily inspired by Eddie Kramer’s work with primarily Led Zeppelin, all aspects of this EZX were designed to provide the ultimate source for instant classic rock gold – the choice of drum kits, the presets and the MIDI. This EZX simply bursts loud, reverberant rock from the onset and out. ‘The Amber Kit,’ which represents a reproduction of the acrylic kit that John Bonham used during the now-historic “The Song Remains the Same” recordings in 1976, has a truly unique, open-sounding and blaring tone. To contrast, ‘The Sparkle Kit,’ also a homage to a setup frequently used by Bonham in several classic sessions, presents a more traditional tonal palette while still offering that mandatory, deafening rock sound. In other words, two perfect kits for classic rock – engineered to perfection by the man who helped shape its very essence.

Even though rock may shift, change and take on new paths, one thing is perfectly certain: the drums remain the same – big, obnoxious and loud. If you’re looking to produce grooves that don’t make any excuses, you’re in luck. Welcome to the sound of rumbling thunder and an EZX literally chock-full of rock.

When the artists of the ‘British Invasion’ started its snowballing procession across the world in the early sixties, they did so as bands. There was rarely just one star – vocal duties were shared, frontman personas changed and suddenly fans could go wild over a group as opposed to just a person. Especially the drummers, no longer tucked away in some dark corner of a dimly lit stage, got their long overdue fame bills paid in full. Just look at Keith Moon, Mick Avory, Ringo Starr or Charlie Watts – all immediate icons in blinding center stage lights.

EZkeys MIDI inspired by the bands of the 1960s ‘British Invasion’ era.
In the sixties, British pop and rock bands literally had the world eating out of their hands. They were everywhere all the time for a decade straight. They were more than bands: they were royals. Their songs were more than music: they started a movement. An invasion.

This collection of MIDI for EZkeys was inspired by the music of these now-legendary bands that not only started this wave but that also changed the course of music history forever. But instead of focusing on the obvious pop angle, it rather leans slightly more towards the rowdier facet of the scene that later would become one of the keystones in the evolution of classic rock. Expect clever chord sequences, big riffs and great rock hooks. Start writing!

EZbass MIDI inspired by the bassists and rock bands of the 1960s ‘British Invasion’ era.
Who can deny the impact of Paul McCartney’s melodic mastery, Bill Wyman’s thud-like blues rhythms or John Entwistle’s ferocious escapes on the fretboard? In many ways, the ‘British Invasion’ era didn’t just redefine the role of the bass player in a band but also the bass guitar as something much more than merely a frequency in the back of the mix. Now, it was okay with a bass growling, distorting or recklessly gobbling up mouthfuls of prime mix real estate. In other words, the bass finally got its due.

This EZbass MIDI pack was recorded in tandem with the British Invasion MIDI packs for drums and EZkeys but should at the same time be considered as something that stands firmly on its own. Expect solid basslines and melodic hooks – all inspired by the time when not only Britain conquered the airwaves but very much so also the bass. Let the bass invasion begin!

iZotope has released an updated editor for RX8 audio restoration

iZotope has released an updated version of RX Audio Editor software for audio restoration. As announced, the new RX8 will bring even more sound correction tools available to professionals.

For example, the Spectral Recovery tool will help you restore dialogues, and the Wow & Flutter feature will help you correct the pitch. The Batch Processor and Loudness Control functions have also been improved. Musicians will be able to use the Guitar De-noise tool, designed specifically for tuning the sound of guitar recordings. According to iZotope, the RX8 Editor is a surgical-grade audio toolkit.
Among other things, the developers paid attention to the improved interface and the appearance of horizontal scrolling in the Spectrogram Display window: this is intended to speed up the workflow and simplify the work with mixes.

IZotope Chief Product Officer Mike Rozett noted that the RX8 and embedded tools "were built to help people solve unsolvable problems."

Known as the birthplace of strings, the Italian city of Cremona has a long and special history. Built hundreds of years ago with wood from surrounding forests, each instrument has its own unique personality, and together their sound represents the heart, soul and magic of the region. A collection of four treasured string instruments dating back to the 1600s, CREMONA QUARTET captures and preserves every detail of their rare characteristics.

MEET THE QUARTET
These instruments were made by the finest luthiers in history. With each articulation of every note played by virtuoso performers in Cremona’s Auditorium Giovanni Arvedi, and recorded in exceptional detail, their sounds are now immortalised for contemporary productions.

STRADIVARI VIOLIN - ‘VESUVIUS’
Born around 1644, household name Antonio Stradivari is the most famous luthier in the history of violin making. His innovations in proportion and shape set trends that continue to influence the craft today. His ‘Vesuvius’ violin, the leader of our CREMONA QUARTET, was built in 1727 towards the end of the master craftsman’s golden period.

STRADIVARI CELLO - ‘STAUFFER’
Though best known for violin making, Stradivari also made other stringed instruments. His ‘Stauffer’ cello, built in 1700, is listed as an Italian national treasure. Completing the quartet with luscious deep tones, it adds weight to the overall sound of the ensemble.

GUARNERI VIOLIN - ‘PRINCE DORIA’
Stradivari may be the world’s most famous violin maker, but many of the world’s most prominent players and composers consider Guarneri del Gesù to be the best. The second violin in the quartet is his ‘Prince Doria’, built in 1734.

AMATI VIOLA - ‘STAUFFER’
A pioneering luthier, Andrea Amati is widely regarded as the inventor of the violin as we know it. His son Gerolamo continued this tradition in the family workshop in Cremona, and built the quartet’s oldest instrument, the ‘Stauffer’ viola, in 1614.

AN EXTRAORDINARY RECORDING PROCESS
The sounds of CREMONA QUARTET were captured using a bespoke array of microphones and preamps, placed in a specially designed acoustic environment. Even the local people of Cremona played their part, with all traffic near the auditorium stopped for the duration of the recordings, to ensure that no external noise could interrupt the process.
