We could mention that we intended to record the best jazz drum library ever created, but in the end we got something much more; drums that go beyond the narrow boundaries of the genre and rather define the era – the era of music, ranging from jazz, blues to hip hop and rock.

We could mention the presence in Blackbird Studio of 1,400 microphones, 35 Pultec EQ channels, 24 Fairchild compression channels and hundreds of external microphone / pre-channels, including Telefunken, Neve, API, RCA and Chandler. Or how this studio is not only a natural choice for someone who is in the music industry, but also in order to give every project that has ever come in and out of its doors a documented magic.

We could even talk about how drummer and world musician Roy “Futureman” Wooten heard every beat and whirlwind, recorded as part of a larger whole, as part of a musical sequence, and not as a single, monotonous hit, and that the result permeates every sample with intensity and unheard of strength. The wait is finally over. Sean Costello (ValhallaDSP) has today released ValhallaDelay, a new super versatile delay plugin for PC & Mac. ValhallaDelay features 7 different delay modes from classic (tape, HiFi, BBD…) to brand-new innovative ones like the Ghost mode. The later one combines the tape model (HiFi mode) with frequency shifting and a unique diffusion algorithm. If you know Sean Costello's developments, that's not enough to call it a ValhallaDSP plugin.


So it comes also with five different tape styles (single, dual, quad ...) for controlling the number of delay voices. Additionally, you can change the delay lengths from 0 msec to 20 seconds, add / remove artifacts with the age control and more. ValhallaDelay is our take on classic and modern delay and echo units. Apple has announced the next update to Logic Pro X, its professional music production and recording program. The v10.4.2 update’s key feature is the inclusion of what Apple calls smart tempo, which allows for automatic tempo detection across the entirety of a project. The update also comes with a variety of new plug-ins, sound libraries, and loops.

Logic’s new smart tempo is probably going to be of most interest to musicians. With smart tempo, you can record naturally into the program without a metronome or click track, and then Logic can automatically map your tempo across the entire recording. There are three new EQs modeled after coveted API, Neve, and Pultec hardware made from the 1950s through the 1970s: Vintage Graphic EQ, Vintage Tube EQ, and Vintage Console EQ. Phat FX is a nine-module multi-effect plug-in with a customizable X/Y pad that can add warmth, crunch, and out-there distortion, and Step FX is an eight-module step sequencer that easily lets you add complex rhythmic movement to tracks. With Phat FX and Step FX, a strip at the bottom of each displays all of the plug-in’s modules and lets you rearrange the order to affect the chain of how a sound is processed.
